Virtually kickstarting the campaign for the upcoming Assembly elections in Maharashtra, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) President Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday challenged Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, saying "Either you will survive or I”, triggering a protest from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Speaking at a pre-election preparatory meeting of party workers and leaders from Mumbai, Mr Thackeray said, “We endured everything but stood firm and taught the BJP a lesson in the Lok Sabha elections." “Our party was broken, we were targeted by central probe agencies, money power was used against us, and they even wanted to throw us in jail… But we survived everything and emerged victorious,” he said amid thunderous applause. The former chief minister recalled how ex-Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) Home Minister Anil Deshmukh had informed him that Mr Fadnavis was 'conspiring' to dump both Uddhav Thackeray and Aditya Thackeray in jail. ...

Explained: Why Bangladesh Students Are Protesting Against Job Quotas

Bangladesh's Supreme Court on Sunday scrapped most of the quotas on government jobs that had sparked nationwide protests by students that have killed at least 139 people in recent days. Here are details of the protests and their history: WHAT TRIGGERED THE PROTESTS? The demonstrations started last month after the High Court reinstated a quota system for government jobs, overturning a 2018 decision by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's government to scrap it. That move, which covered the 30% of jobs reserved for family members of freedom fighters in the 1971 war for independence from Pakistan, followed similar student protests. But the Supreme Court suspended the high court order after the government's appeal. On Sunday it dismissed the lower court order and directed that 93% of jobs should be open to candidates on merit. The court reserved 5% of jobs for family members of independence fighters and 2% for people from so-called backward groups and the disabled. The student...

Cave Found On Moon, Could Shelter Humans In Future

Scientists have found evidence for an accessible cave conduit beneath the moon's surface. The location of the underground cave is not far from Apollo 11's landing site. It's 250 miles (400 kilometers) from where Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed 55 years ago. Researchers analysed radar measurements by NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, and compared the results with lava tubes on Earth. Their findings appeared in the journal Nature Astronomy. The finding suggests that the cave is a "promising site for a lunar base" as it offers shelter from the harsh surface environment and could support long-term human exploration of the Moon. The cave is accessible from the deepest known pit on the moon. It's located at the Mare Tranquillitatis (Sea of Tranquility) The pit, like the more than 200 others discovered up there, was created by the collapse of a lava tube. NASA is aiming to build a semi-permanent crewed base on the moon, China and Russia have also an...

"Not everyone to be very honest. As a cricketer, I respect him a lot, but I don't share the same equation with him as I used to," said Mishra. "Why does Virat have less friends? His and Rohit's natures are different," he added. ...

The AR-15: One Of US's Deadliest, Most Popular Guns Used In Trump Attack

The attempted assassination of former US president Donald Trump with a semi-automatic rifle illustrates once again how easy it is for shooters in the US to get their hands on inexpensive, easy-to-use, military-style weapons. The AR-15-style rifle is one of the most popular guns in the US. It has also been a common denominator in some of the country's worst mass shootings. Here are some key facts about the weapon: Why Are AR-15s So Lethal? The AR-15 is a semi-automatic weapon, meaning a user can fire multiple shots in quick succession. Its cousin, the M-16, has been used by the US military since Vietnam. While some military assault rifles are fully automatic, civilians are prohibited from owning such weapons in most circumstances. AR-15s fire high-velocity bullets that travel at triple the speed of a handgun round, are accurate over long distances, and cause expansive, devastating wounds to soft tissue and internal organs. While handguns account for more deaths per year in th...
