Bihar Over, Rahul Gandhi And BJP Clash Over Bengal's New SIR Frontline

After the intense battles fought on the plains of Bihar and in the Supreme Court, the special intensive revision (SIR) exercise frontline has moved to West Bengal, where Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her Trinamool Congress has already started opposing the Election Commission's initiative to clean-up the voter rolls. The Congress, too, is one of the opposition parties that have severely criticised the SIR; some Congress leaders even faulted the SIR for the party's bad show in the Bihar assembly election. On Sunday, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi led the opposition's battle formation on the SIR in Bengal. "Under the guise of SIR, chaos has been unleashed across the country - the result? In three weeks, 16 BLOs [booth level officers] have lost their lives. Heart attacks, stress, suicides - SIR is no reform, it's an imposed tyranny," Gandhi said in a post in Hindi on X. Sarfaraz "Not Even Being Allowed To Fail": Questions Raised On Selectors

Sarfaraz Khan 's long absence from the Indian Test team has raised quite a few eyebrows. Several former players feel that the Mumbai batter, who has not played a Test since November 2024, deserves a chance in the squad. Former India player Aakash Chopra believes Sarfaraz has fallen victim to a perception battle. The 28-year-old has so far played six Tests, scoring 371 runs at an average of 37.10. He has three fifties and one century to his name. "I think there is a clarity issue in the case of Sarfaraz. I think it is a case of perception and understanding. I am trying to think-they might have a perception that he may not do as well in swinging conditions or play fast bowling well. Maybe he is not our guy in SENA countries. So he did not get the chance. But even to make that perception, I have to allow him to fail. He is not even being allowed to fail. And now there is no place in the team as well," Chopra said on Shubhankar Mishra's YouTube channel. The former Indi...

Indian-Origin Professor On Why US Firms Hire H-1Bs: "Cheaper, Controllable"

Ronil Hira, an Indian-origin professor at Howard University and H-1B visa critic, broke down why employers in the US prefer H-1B workers. Speaking on the show System Update, Hira explained that US companies favour the program because it lets them hire workers at lower wages who are tied to their employers, limiting job mobility.  "Most of the people coming to the US on H-1B visas have ordinary skills, skills that are abundantly available from American workers. Employers prefer the H-1Bs because they can both be legally paid less than American workers, and secondly, they're controllable, they're indentured to the employer," he explained. Gambhir's Blunt Verdict On Batters After Disappointing Loss To SA: "Not Fair"

India's head coach Gautam Gambhir on Sunday backed Eden Gardens' under-fire curator while lamenting his batters' inability to "absorb pressure" and find a way to score runs on the challenging surface in the opening Test against South Africa. Proteas successfully defended 124 to humble India by 30 runs, having bowled the home team out for 93 in their second innings to wrap up the match under three days. The result continued the worrying trend of home reversals that has seen them lose four of their last six home Tests and nine of the 18 matches under Gambhir. "It was not an unplayable wicket, there were no demons," Gambhir said at the post-match media interaction. "If you are willing to put your head down and if you have a solid defense, if you have a temperament, you can definitely score runs," he said. The match saw 38 wickets (as Shubman Gill was retired hurt) fall in just eight sessions and out of them the pacers had a share of 16, while s...

At Tea, South Africa were 18/1, but the final session turned into a complete collapse. The Proteas lost six wickets while adding just 75 runs, unable to counter the turn and accuracy of India's spin trio. In total, the day produced 15 wickets, three in the morning, six in the afternoon, and six more in the final session.
