Pocso court hears, convicts, sentences man in 1 day

A suspect in the rape case of a minor girl was tried, heard, convicted and sentenced to a life term in prison by a Pocso court in Bihar’s Araria district in a single day’s proceedings, reportedly setting a new record and benchmark for speedy trials in a country besieged with pendency of cases in courts. The judge, Shashikant Ray, also directed the convict to pay Rs 7 lakh as compensation for the girl’s rehabilitation. The order was passed on October 4.
