India & China skip renewable pledge, 118 nations sign

India and China abstained from a pledge at the CO summit to triple global renewable energy generation capacity and double energy efficiency by 2030, aligning with India's stance to prioritize coal-fired power plants. India maintains that it does not want to compromise on power availability for economic growth and has kept the option to use coal until 2030. While committed to increasing non-fossil power capacity, India wants to negotiate the terms of any commitment to avoid hindering poverty alleviation efforts.
